Tiivistelmä
A total of 4 964 clients used the services of shelters for victims of domestic violence in 2021. Of these, 57 per cent were adults and 43 per cent were children. Of the adults, 91 per cent were female and 9 per cent were male. In 2021 the number of clients declined by five percent compared with 2020. The number of both adult clients and underage clients declined. Before the coronavirus epidemic, the number of clients had grown each year from 2015, but the epidemic put a stop to this trend and the numbers now went down for a second year running. In 2021, there were in total 29 shelters for victims of domestic violence in Finland. The shelters could accommodate 211 families or clients that come alone. Shelter services are state-funded special services defined in legislation for people who have experienced acts or threatened acts of domestic violence.
