Tiivistelmä
Ultrasound refers to sound with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. Ultrasound is utilized for many purposes in medicine, beauty care, industry and consumer products. In the past years, the use of ultrasound has increased particularly in the field of beauty care, where it has applications such as skin cleansing and fat removal. At worst, the use of ultrasound may have serious health effects, and therefore ensuring safety is essential.
The focus of this survey is on beauty care applications. The survey examines the conclusions drawn by international organizations concerning how ultrasound should be used in order to prevent harmful health effects, as well as the related recommendations they have made. The survey includes recommendations for developing radiation legislation.
